It is a gross understatement that Vincent “DJ Spinna
” Williams is labeled a “hip-hop DJ.” Indeed, Spinna has an expansive and braggable track record in that genre, yet his work encompasses much more that, even when accompanied by rappers. Whether on a playlist, in the studio, or in the DJ booth of a nightclub, he is just as comfortable next to Osunlade as he is next to Rich Medina. Labels are a hindrance when classifying Spinna’s work, but one adjective might suffice as the guiding premise: “soulful.”
Spinna's production credits includes work for rappers Eminem, J-Live, Del Tha Funky Homosapien, Masta Ace, Soulive, and his own supergroup Polyrhythm Addicts. The turn of the millennium marked more forays into the world of house music and neo-soul, entailing collaborations with Ron Trent, Tortured Soul, Chris Brann's Ananda project and more. A celebration of Spinna's birth is also a celebration of his brilliant work and immortal legacy, which will include moments of musical ecstacy courtesy of the city's most intense sound system.
Alongside Spinna will be DJ Scratch
, a vanguard production wizard who was an in-house favorite for the likes of EPMD, The Flipmode Squad and LL Cool J. Also on the wheels will be Kenny Dope
, the devilishly innovative latin-influenced funk-house producer, one man compilation factory, half of the Masters At Work team (alongside Louie Vega) and entrepreneur behind Kaydee Records.
